The Half Life of a Growth Strategy

That plan still looks sharp on the slide. Your team stopped fighting for it two weeks ago. You can smell the half life before Finance names it.

Your growth strategy has a half life. Not in the nuclear sense. In the quarter sense.

You build a plan in January. By March, a competitor launched something you didn't see coming. By June, your best campaign is teaching people to ignore you. By September, you are presenting the same deck to a different room of people who also don't believe it.

This is not a strategy problem. This is a refresh rate problem.

The unspoken truth

Most B2B growth plans are written to be approved, not used. They are governance documents. They get a green light from the board, sit in a shared drive, and grow stale at exactly the same speed as the market moves away from them.

The leaders who break this pattern treat strategy like software. Ship fast. Watch signals. Patch. Reship. No ego in the first version.

Three questions worth asking right now

1. When was the last time you killed a project that was already funded?

2. When was the last time your sales team changed the pitch without asking marketing?

3. When was the last time you reviewed a customer call recording just to listen for confusion?

If all three answers feel heavy, your strategy is older than you think.

What to do this Friday

Pull up your plan. Find the one slide with the timeline on it. Ask yourself which assumptions on that slide have already been wrong for 30 days.

Then do the thing nobody does. Cross out the timeline. Replace it with a next experiment. Run that for 30 days. Measure honestly. Kill or keep.

Growth is not a destination you reach in Q4. It is a decision you keep making in weeks two, three, and eleven when the budget meeting feels far away and the easy thing is to let the quarter run itself.

The punchline

The best strategy is the one you are brave enough to change while it is already funded. The worst strategy is the one nobody dares to admit is already dead.

At humAIne, we help B2B teams shorten the distance between market signal and internal decision. Less deck, more pulse. Less plan, more run. If your growth strategy feels like it has the half life of a lunch order, we should talk.
